Considering it is coming up on the anniversary of that memorable ocassion from last year, I thought we could all use a reminder to remain considerate and professional in our interactions with one another. Best of luck to everyone in the remainder of the application cycle!

I wonder what happen to that member... Does anyone know?

I keep stumbling upon allusions to this but I couldn't easily find the full story...what happened? Adcoms saw someone abusing members on here and linked their sdn with their real name?

As I recall, an SDN member who was accepted into ACOM had his admission rescinded after abusive and unprofessional behavior on Facebook (or some other social media venue).

I have read (on here) that he is currently in a post-bac program. I also read that following his ACOM booting he was granted an interview at LMU and blew it. The people that met him gave a good idea of what his character was like, and after reading that I wasn't at all surprised about his issues.

Watch out for the PC police. I didn't know the guy, but someone having their acceptance rescinded for saying something on FB comes off as petty. I think admins can be better than that. Then again, it is Alabama.

Goro- has your school done similar things? What do people in your neck of the woods get acceptances rescinded for?

I thought I had heard that some of the comments were racist in nature. If that is the case I could see them taking some action. Especially because he made it VERY public that he was accepted to ACOM. Being a new school that year I can see how they would want to save as much face as possible, especially considering some unfortunate circumstances involving their new dean. I think they just made a judgement call, it was harsh, but not necissarily unwarrented. From what I do remember there was no warning given to him, it was just an abrupt rescindance. In that particualr sense I do think it was a little too harsh.

Why can't people be nice? Does it cost that much for people to be nice? I thought that was just on unusual mistake on his part; but if people who met him say he is an a..ss, I guess he probably has some soul searching to do.

He's a jerk who said some racist stuff.

Just a reminder to avoid any isms on facebook, Twitter, sdn, etc.

Oh boy.

This, folks, is a prime example of why moving mountains to avoid stigma is pointless. You could graduate #1 in your class at Yale, and you'll still be judged because you're chubby, female, a different color, etc. Where there are people, there will always ignorance. Thanks for keeping things in perspective, NontradCA.

Lolwut, I thought it was PC to make fun of fat people and rednecks? Crap I need another cultural awareness rehab seminar.

He also was acting very like a recruiter... saying, oh you will/won't get in because of X. He talked A LOT, and people were starting to believe the things he said. I don't like any med school wants something like that happening. In MU-COM's thread, the ADCOM is very quick to shoot down those kind of comments.

So true... I mean, even for just the length of an interview you should be able to pretend right?

Based on your avatar I take it you picked Miami? Awesome.

Yeah, that what we are thinking. My wife and I sat down and talked it over for quite sometime. It just has so many opportunities that DMU couldn't offer, not just the MD DO thing, Miami has six affiliated hospitals within a block of the campus, plus I was accepted to their 4 year MD/MPH track and I really want that MPH degree.

No thread is complete without this. I wonder who made this amazing image.

I've never heard of it happening here. I don't know if news of stuff like this would percolate down to the Faculty or even the AdCom once the decision is made. I suspect that this is an ultra-rare event at any medical school.

Goro- has your school done similar things? What do people in your neck of the woods get acceptances rescinded for?

Congrats man! You'll likely be better off overall! What is their COA? Better start saving up for the move because that's a big one!

Awesome! I heard somewhere that DMU has you traveling around quite a wide swath of the midwest for rotations. I didn't interview there so I don't know if it's true... but if it is, just the fact that you'll be local the whole 4 yrs will probably prove a bigger plus for your family than the actual location itself.

I remember driving by one of Miami's hospitals on the way to the beach. I dreamed for a minute.

ACOM rescinded the acceptance offer in November? Did he not get into other schools besides ACOM?

No. He had a terrible personality, and unfortunately he also withdrew from other interview invites after his acceptance.

Interestingly, the only school where he did get a (temporary) acceptance was one where the dean had a serious drinking problem.

COA is $71,356 so not that bad actually. They are a private school, instate tuition is 34,000 and out of state is 42,000 so education wise it is the same as DMU. Cost of living of course is a different matter though. But like I mentioned before there are other benefits like the dual degree in four years. Very impressive, indeed.

3 in Family Med, lol.
Yeah, they dont rank very high in the primary care area on the US world news, I can see why, althought I figure I shouldnt have a problem going into FM if I choose to do so.

It's so strange that he posted racist things. I had talked with him on FB as a friend asking for advice, and he was very friendly and actually gave me some good pointers . He seemed like a nice guy. Last I heard , he got accepted to ACOM again... I'm not sure where he is now. I'd like to see some of his comments so i can see what the fuss is about.

I think maybe he got accepted into a school that he wanted and felt so good and carefree that he got Carried away and started trolling everybody. He suffered the consequences though.

That'd be crazy if he got reaccpted, since they basically threatened to call the cops if he so much as contacted the admissions office for clarification after receiving rescindment by email.

I think a little of it was fueled by that random dork that I accidentally let in and started trolling the group.

Eh somebody liked my post from 3 years ago, so bump. Watch out for the PC police, kids!

Shoot. I should close my SDN account and all threads.
Can anyone check me and see if I posted anything offensive? 🙁

Don't worry your fine. Just don't go saying anything extremely offensive (i.e. racist remarks) and linking it to your facebook account. This is what happened and the so called poster got his acceptance rescinded.

The problem is that people give too many identifying pieces of information and this is what gets them caught. It was a stupid move to link his SDN account to his facebook page.

I second this completely. That was a pointless comment.

Relax, that guy used his real name on facebook and made racist remarks. SDN really had nothing to do with what happened.

I don't have a FB and I haven't posted anything racist. So I guess I can continue to be on SDN 😉 😀
