are we allowed to post research requests in here? i'm trying to get more participants for my thesis project (which deals specifically with psychology graduate students), but i don't want to commit a no-no if it's not allowed...

In general, no.

Our official policy is here:

The Student Doctor Network strongly encourages and supports research. To that end, we allow research studies and surveys of our membership with prior approval.

We require your Institutional Review Board approval for all studies. These can be sent to us through the 'contact us' link at the right. Data collected must comply with our privacy policies. Online surveys must be done through a .edu address to ensure compliance with IRB guidelines.

The IRB letter should be attention to Lee Burnett.

Please do not start any survey of our membership until approved by SDN through this process. We will not allow any research to proceed without IRB approval.

(However, personally, I've never seen this done. Whether it's because no one goes through the process or no one gets approved, I couldn't tell you. You're welcome to give it a shot).

Any survey requests, etc., that haven't gone through this process will be deleted.

Please feel free to contact a mod or admin if you have any further questions.

I think I've seen it once in 5+ years, and that was for a very specific thing. In general it is not allowed, even with IRB approval, etc.
