Right now I'm going for Bio-medicine, but I don't really care for it.

I just know that it covers all the classes that I need to apply to medical school, and is a respectable degree - however, I'm looking at all the classes I'm going have to take, and I really don't want to do them.

Do you think I should just get a degree I wanna get, and do the prerequisites and apply to medical school?

It doesn’t matter what degree you get.

just make sure you want to go to medical school and are willing to take its courses.. you will have to take biochemistry, physiology, molecular bio/genetics etc.

I would honestly say, I love science - it's my favorite subject behind history.

I just want to accelerate getting into medical school, I don't really care for the biomedicine degree - I just want my medical degree.

I don't see how a specific major is going to 'accelerate' getting into medical school. Unless you're saying the biomedicine degree would take longer, you're going to do 4 years of college regardless of your major.

Yes, that's what I mean. It'll take longer for me to attain the Biomed degree.

@Alricson It helps if you provide basic background information on what you have done so far e.g. completed an associate's degree and are transitioning into a 4-year program to finish off a bachelor's to apply to medical school. There is no context to frame an understanding of what you have done so far, what you need to do, and what you want at the end. People don't normally bother with trying to take a look at your post history before giving advice.

I would not recommend taking additional time to get a particular degree, unless you're passionate about the subject. So pursue a degree that will allow you to finish undergrad "on time".

Oh well then yeah, just major in whatever you want + take the prereqs + 1-2 upper level science courses like I mentioned in my first post.

No reason to major in 'biomed' (I don't even know what that means) if you don't want to and it's going to take longer to graduate

I say this nicely but - why on earth would you do that then? Haha

Science is my favorite subject but I still didn't major in it. There's more to learn out there that will make you well-rounded and in touch w/ disciplines outside of mass memorizing cell biology lectures... plus you have med school to do that! Just make sure you take all prereqs

Hahah! I said the same thing!

What's funny is the dichotomy of the responses on here, in comparison to Reddit's r/premed - mostly everyone there, aside from one person, was telling me I should get a science degree or questioning my thought process

I got a non-science bachelor's degree (and Master's) and I'm starting medical school this fall. As long as you do the necessary prereqs and get in some good shadowing and volunteering, you'll be fine. Especially if you can tell committees why your chosen bachelor's is a good complement to medicine and will make you a better more well-rounded doctor.
