I was wondering if anyone can tell me what type of rent allowance is given to those that are married with children?

I'm trying to get an idea of what type of income my husband is going to need in order for us to survive... that is should I actually get in🙂

It's not likely that he will be able to find a job within his career depending on where we end up. So, that's where my curiousity stems from.

We have two kids

Thanks!

I am a 1st year with a child. At my school, estimated expenses are for a single person with no dependents only, so loans/grants won't cover extra expenses. I don't have any extra sources, and am skimming by okay.

So, there is no consideration given to family size? Yikes. I'm glad to hear that you are able to get by although I have to admit that it sounds pretty scary!

I don't know if it is different at other schools, though. Search their financial aid pages or talk to a financial aid rep from the school.

Thanks for the suggestion! Will do. 🙂

The federal loans are always just for you and do not take into account a spouse or children. The school may have some childcare expenses included in their annual budget.

Yes, the federal aid is only for you and your expenses. That said most lenders will make private loans to cover for the rest that you need, but these loans generally have higher (but not obscene) interest rates and are not subsidized. They can be deferred usually.
