Is it likely to match ob/gyn after a repeat year? I already repeated my year and I'm a rising second year. I had a lot of things going on that caused the repeat which is no need to get into. I have no desire for any of the crazy high competitive specialities. Currently, interested in mfm, rei, and neonatology but leaning more to the mfm and rei which means an ob/gyn residency.

Currently OBGYN has become increasingly competitive and only about 85% of MD applicants match. Your ability to match is going depend on getting the support of the OB/GYN dept at your med school; doing well on OB/GYN rotations at both your home program and any aways you get; showing sustained interest in the field during med school; and scoring well in Step 2 ( median score for matched applicants is around 245). And no more failures.

Apply widely, including to community programs.

Thank you for your response. I agree no more failures. I will definitely apply to community programs.

I actually know 3 people who matched OBGYN despite repeating a year! So yes.

(And no, this is not false hope or whatever. People still match despite setbacks).

Might be difficult but need to be flawless at this point. Going to have to be open to location. Start networking now and shine on interviews and auditions and you’ll match

Thanks for your response. Not necessarily open to location as I don't plan to apply to any states with restricted abortion laws. Already been networking. Agree on the interviews and auditions.
