So i was told if i repeat courses i took such as CHM2045 and PHY2049 that i got B's and C's in, it would look bad and get flagged by AMCAS. I was told you should avoid all red flags. So ok no problem.. dont repeat coursework you already took. Now i have a question and nobody seems to know the answer. I got AP credit for bio 1 BSC2010/1010 and the lab in high school but it's years later and i am back in school and want to take it since i really dont remember it. I never took the bio 1 lecture but did get AP credit and it shows up on my transcript as having received credit for it (of course no grade towards gpa). If i take bio 1 now for a grade WILL AMCAS FLAG MY RECORD???????

I don't know if AMCAS will flag it. Instead of taking it for credit and stressing over tests, you could audit the course. If this class is held in an auditorium with lots of students, you could just sit in the back of the room and try not to draw attention to yourself.

i got AP credit for my english courses too but heard that AP credit does NOT count as a full year of freshman composition. Is this true even if on my transcript it says i received AP credit for AML2023, ENC1101,ENC1102??? And if i now go back and take ENC1101 for a grade, will it also cause my record to be flagged and show up on AMCAS as a repeated class?

I would hope not for AP credits since I'm doing this for physics since a lot of medical schools won't accept my AP credits, and I'd rather retake the stuff than take upper level physics.

I took both AP english classes, physics and chem (among others); they show up on my college transcript, and I also took the similar class (i.e. gen chem), and there were no "red flags." I'm not sure if i'm answering your question though...

some schools actually accept AP credit if you've taken a course that requires the AP credit class as a pre-req. it's probably best to ask the school directly. the 2 schools I applied to that clearly stated they do not accept AP credit are BU and UCLA. and for that...i am re-taking the ENTIRE general chemistry series...plus the lab. o soooo funnnn. 😴 i think repeating a class would be easier than taking upper div to meet those requirements....since it would be review, i think most ppl do okay too. it's just brain-numbing to learn stuff that you've learned...sooo long ago. haha. 🙄

Talk to the registrar's office. If your transcript shows credit for those three classes, then I would say that you earned your one year of credit.

I took everything I received AP credit for again in college, with the exception of American History. Since most schools won't take AP credit for medical school pre-reqs (it does vary school by school), I think it's pretty standard to retake AP courses in college. In fact, I never found anywhere on my AMCAS where it specifically spelled out what my AP credit was for, it just read "AP credit: 8 units (or something)" I'd ask a pre-med advisor or a school that you're specifically interested in if you're really averse to re-taking the class. GLuck!
