Replacing classes at community college

So I am looking at replacing a few classes at my CC upon graduation. My question is, how does the replacement work? Does the class have to be the EXACT class that would have theoretically been transferred to my University? Or will classes in the same area/course number/difficulty be sufficient?

The classes must have exactly the same number of credit hours. I tried to replace a 4 CR physics course with a 5 CR physics and they would not accept it for that reason.

They do not have to be exact. You cannot replace a higher credit course with a lower credit course, but the inverse is fine.

Can you please elaborate as to why they wouldn't let you make that replacement. That is exactly what I've already doing for my post bacc and would absolutely devastate my hard work for the past year if not accepted. Why wouldn't a 5 unit be able to replace 4 unit?

A 5 credit class can replace a 4 credit class. However, a 4 unit class cannot replace a 5 unit one. The replacement credits must be the same amount OR higher than the credit amount of the class that you are looking to replace.

I wasn't clear in my first response/mistyped-- the course I tried to replace was 4CR. The course I wanted to replace it WITH was 5 CR but was combined lecture (4) and lab (1). When I called about it, they told me the reason I could not replace was that the retake was a different CR value than the first. Since the other posters have said the opposite, I would call AACOMAS for clarification. It may have been since there was a lab component but when I asked they said it was strictly because of the different CR values.

Yeah, my friend checked the list with the pre med adviser of courses he was planning to retake to replace his grades. Grade replacement can be your friend big time. Without grade replacement he has a 2.8-2.9, with it, he has a 3.3-3.4. The rate he is going at he might be graduating with a 3.6. I haven't done grade replacement and have a 3.3. I'm considering possibly retaking a non-science class for a retake since I might be graduating a term early. I'm on pace of graduating around a 3.45-3.5. An A in this so called course would by itself improve my gpa by probably at least 0.1 (It counted a lot credit wise and I did not do well at all).

So I would say it is important to make sure it is equal to the credit hours. I think if it is greater than I probably would check with your school adviser or call AACOMAS
