I am glad to see the  in your reply.

Btw, according to my own experiences (stories that I heard),
your opening statements are not all confabulated. There is some basis for those experiences/opinions and the statements probably refer more appropriately to the first or early generattion. They may not accurately apply to the second or succeeding generation who are not that hungry anymore. But I will leave it at that. I wouldn't want to give any psychiatrist a chance to declare a professional opinion on me. You know, many acts of committed suicide or self-inflicting injuries, in or ouside an anonymous forum, could be signs of dysfunctional mental status.

Good luck.

now.... after the economy is picking up a little, lets see how many asians go about taking jobs straight out of college.

espeically those desperate money hungry punters who got a BA in Business Econ from UCLA.

black athletes play sports for money, white athletes actually "love" the game

🙄

i resent that, i think i may have perhaps come across too strong. however, i still feel that there are certain decrepencies when it comes down to foreigners wanting to join main stream culture.

When I read threads like this it makes me so sad and angry at the same time. I attend Howard University College of Medicine, MSII. The greatest thing about being there is that everyone sticks together. There's no sense of competing against one another. We take it as it's us minority working to bring each other up. The point is we love each other and as minority have to help each other out.

What I see in the Asian community however is not a sense of sticking together. I see a lot of self-hatred like the OP of this aweful thread. Blacks help blacks, hispanics are a tight group, jews look out for each other, etc but asians bicker. The OP and people like him are so stupid. Instead of being proud that asians tend to be accomplished, hard working, and have a good plan - the OP sees this as somehow a terrible trait. Well if you don't like being asian then bleach your skin and change your last name to Smith.

As I see it whatever you are be proud. February is Black History month and we are proud to showcase the great accomplishments of African Americans in this country. I think that asians should showcase their great contributions to society. Asian culture puts great emphasis on education, moreso than other culture, that should be a point of pride and not scorn.

Just so you know, medicine2006, I am an asian female and some of my closest friends are also asian females who hope to become health providers. They are very nice and very helpful. No competition here. I think I get along with them even better than my friends of other ethnicities because our up-bringing is so similar, we naturally have a lot in common. I think that the expereince of some asians is sadly, very negative and skewed. It is not representative of mine or others' experiences. Granted, I have never lived in California but from my experience, asians are just as helpful as others. Maybe I've just been lucky and lived a very charmed life or maybe I just focus more on the positives and somehow forget about negatives but I think people are generally good. I have not met many super-competitive prestige-seeking people in my life (of any ethnicity). Whenever I see that someone has strange behavior, I just steer clear consequently, I'm not affected by them and don't get hurt or frustrated.

I don't know about other asian-americans' experiences but I was always taught to have "humility". I cannot see asian-americans ever having an "asian-american month" because that woudl be considered not humble by people like my parents. I'm not saying that having a month celebrating a group is wrong, just that some very traditional people may feel it improper. I don't know if all asians feel this way though. I'm pretty neutral one way or the other.

Some of the things he mentioned do ring true for some asians. Nothing is absolute, but there is truth in it. Denial ain't just a river.

The "things he mentioned do ring ture for some" Caucasians, African-Americans, Mexican-Americans as well.....blah blah. So, I don't see why this thread must be specific to "Asians". Obviously, you didn't start this thread, but I am just questioning your quote. I know plenty of my white friends who outright say that they want to make "craploadofmoney" through medicine...and these guys are interviewing at some of the top places in the country. My point: every race, community has the same "human nature". It ain't gonna change with race! It's better we learn this now, rather than when we actually start treating patients.

The OP's comments remind me of those types of people that become ultra-assimilated into US culture and ideology to the point where they join the bashing-bandwagon against minorities, and in the most extreme cases, against their own racial or ethnic groups. For what? Acceptance within the majority. I have met so many people like this--Asians, Indians, Hispanics and even Blacks! It runs the gamut from whites-only dating/marriage to colored contacts and peroxide-fried hair, name changes, loss of accents, refusal to speak/learn native tongues and self-imposed distancing from those of their group that maintain their cultural ties. I feel sympathy for them because they are missing out on so much to be proud of.

And another thing, there's so much anti-minority sentiment on this board--oh, but let me be quick to add, definitely not racist--it underscores the need more than ever for why we need more minority doctors! I would be shattered, being Black, if I found out my white doctor felt this way about my race. So you anti-minorities, and I mean that only in the context for which you all have revealed yourselves, keep up the good work! Keep pushing us onward. For your anger, hatred, and confoundedness only justify the need for more of us to attend med school, become physicians and become positive role models in our communities.

And as far as your IQ scores, SES studies, etc., stick 'em, because if they meant a damn thing, would we would NOT be able to enjoy, as US citizens, a George W. Bush presidency. So put down *The Bell Curve* and pick up a copy of *Bush-isms*. I am inclined to believe that the position of Commander-in Chief is little more important than being an MD. After all, who has the power to start a "nu-cue-lar" war?

I think your bias is due to several reasons. You live in So Cal where people drive nice cars and show off just about everything they have. I don't live in So Cal but I've been there several times so I know what you are talking about. What you do lack is a serious lack of cultural background and reasons for why certain races act the way they do. Because of your ignorance of this matter, you fail to understand why most korean parents are pushy. Korea not that long ago was a very poor country picking up the pieces after the end of the World War II. Most (your favorite word) of our parent's generation grew up poor and saved every penny so that we wouldn't grow up like they did. That's most of where the 'pushy parent' syndrome comes from. I think our generation as parent would be much different... just as how we have already seen the transition with 2nd generation korean parents.

There is nothing wrong with the fact that someone who graduated with a business degree should aim for a job with a higher salary. This is what capitalism is all about.

And I live in an area where all of my korean friends are decent human beings not different from average human being of any other races. They are good-natured who don't have dreams of becoming a doctor, lawyer, etc but who dream of having a stable family and of providing for their future children.

From your posts, anyone can see that you have a clear bias toward hating Koreans. You make your point and when others disagree you, you simply disregard them by saying that there are 'exceptions' and that your word is not the 'premier truth of all mankind.' Those arguments can be made to defend almost any point of view. You lack evidence to prove anything you say.

I will quote you here,

"i never wrote my stuff to be the premier truth of all mankind. but apparently these people on SDN take this **** to heart."

If you write a message of anger and frustration toward a way a certain race acts, you WILL see that people will take it to their heart. Did you not expect this? Please do not repeat saying "most" koreans are like this and that as if you know "most" koreans. I hardly believe that you know by heart how more than 35 million koreans think and act.
