reporting lab hours on amcas

So...I worked about 40 hrs per week in lab during the year in undergrad. I am not sure if i should report this honestly on amcas or lower the number so that it's more believable. I am a workaholic so while it's absolutely true I worked this much (and way more some weeks), I don't want to come off like i'm inflating hours....not sure what to do....we did "login" our hours but I can't get into the system anymore (i graduated) to verify the number. I stopped logging them in towards the end because we were only allowed to work 15 hrs/week as undergrads and didn't want to get in trouble.

Working fulltime in a lab during undergrad is truly impressive and I'd definitely mention that in AMCAS. Your PI will likely confirm your hours when AMCAS has any doubt and decides to contact him/her.

So the problem there is that my PI wasn't really in lab most of the time so he never knew how much me or the other undergrads worked....so I'm really scared he wouldn't be able to confirm it.

Ah this sucks that I might have to lie and say i worked less.

What about the grad students and/or post-docs? Are you sure you can no longer gain access to your logged hours? In that case, I'd enter the contact info of the person/system in charge of containing your logged hours. There should be someone managing this (like a research technician or something).

Yea that's true...but they aren't my primary contact, my PI is. I doubt my PI would ask them before answering...

At first my PI was giving me a hard time because I wasn't coming in enough (and it's true I was so confused what I was supposed to be doing I didn't go in) but then my project started and I was in lab experimentin' away full force the next 3 years. I just feel like he would remember telling me to come in more 3 years before I left the lab and think "there's no way this person worked 40-50 hrs a week."

Yes I tried to login multiple times, it won't let me as I graduated. It's an automated timing website for all the university's employees. I guess it won't let me in because i'm no longer an employee.

AMCAS won't contact anyone. Nor will schools.

I really don't think you should stress about this. Your supposed to be honest, not report what you perceive as verifiable. I'm also pretty sure they very rarely call your contact, and if they do, I don't think they expect perfect numbers. I know that many of my contacts do not necessarily have hourly records, but just tried to be as honest as possible with the hours.

Report the hours you have worked. You will provide contact info that will allow verification, though it is unlikely that any attempts will be made by the schools to verify.
