So my very first post on SDN had a hiccup, and the message body does not appear to be there. I am familiar enough with message boards to have tried editing/deleting the thread (as the poster I should be able to) but the message board is confused and is not allowing me access.

I will repost my question below, with the assumption that a moderator will delete the other (empty) thread.

If anyone knows about the science GPA, or can add to this, please reply.

Thanks.

---------

I have 2 engineering undergrad degrees, and am going into dentistry.

I have been reading about the two different GPAs, the overal and cumulative, and have the following questions:

1- how is the science gpa calculated?

2- are engineering courses considered in the Science GPA calculation? (eg. courses that do not start in BIO/CHEM/OCHEM, but are science oriented such as electrical engineering classes)

3- what about additional, advanced chemistry electives I have taken? will those be factored into my science GPA

4- can someone point me (and other readers) toward a link detailing how the different GPAs are calculated? An official site, such as ADEA is appreciated.

5- is there anything else I should be aware of with the GPA calculations?

Thanks,
Eng_dent

I had a similar concern, and ADEA keeps changing this designation. I am under the impression that engineering classes are not under the new "sci" gpa but before (1 month ago) they had an "other sci" gpa that included engineering. I would go to www.adea.org and call the number and ask a person. Also when you apply it may give a detailed description of the gpa calc. I applied in may so I suspect the description has changed since they changed the categories they had...hope this helps

Thanks for replying.

Can anyone who is certain add to BKwash's comments? Has anyone applied for class of 2006 with an engineering background?

bump.

I can tell by looking at my sci gpa that the engineering courses are definitely included in the new sci gpa calc.

Yes, AADSAS has included all my engineering and CS courses in "Sciences" GPA.

Thanks for clearing that up. In my opinion, they certainly should cound as a science course. I know my 4th year semiconductors course, with quantum physics certainly was science oriented..

Out of curiosity, what is you folks engineering/CS background? Dual degrees in electrical engineering and computer engineering here with 2.5 years of employment at a Fortune 500 engineering company.

I'm a former ChemE with 4 yrs work experience...

Out of curiosity, how were you received as a non-traditional applicant to dental schools? Are you currently in d-school? Where were you accepted? Any suggestions or angles to play in my applications as an engineer going to dentistry?

I'm applying this cycle...if you do a search there's been a couple recent threads about engineers applying/going to dental school, you should probably check those out.
