So, here is the deal!

I applied to medical school this year(only applied to 7 schools but that is another story), and I'm waitlisted at one school and still waiting on another(late interview).
It seems that I will be reapplying but of course, I want my application to be better. I called Upstate Med(waitlisted school) and the dean of admissions suggested that I improved on my extracurricular activities and take some non-marticulating course at NYU. Someone else suggested appying to Boston University for their MA in Medical Sciences.
Basically, I feel like a chicken without its head.

I would greatly appreciate some feedback from someone who is going through the same thing. I feel soooo lonely because I'm the only one among my family and friends that is trying to pursue a medical career.

Thank You

lonely from Brooklyn, N.Y 😕 + 🙁

P.S: If you are an aspiring doctor from NYC email me!
There is strength in numbers!!!

Hey, I totally know how you feel. I am in Queens. Used to live in Brooklyn, and I don't know any real live pre-meds.

I too was waitlisted at Upstate and am now re-applying.

Maybe if a bunch of people respond to this thread we can have a get together.

Hey,
I'm from the Bronx. Don't give give up hang in there!!!! Blackfire, I personally think you should take the Dean's advice and strengthen the areas suggested to you. However, if you feel you can't wait that long then I guess go to Boston Univeristy. At the end you have to make the choice of what really makes you happy and what you really want to do in life. 🙄

P.S. I am an aspiring doctor from NYC(Bronx)!!!! 😳

Hey, blackfire & ma-bas:

Go NYC!! I live in Brooklyn, applying again. I'm waitlisted at 2 NYC schools and again am only (re)applying to NYC schools (6 of them, same as last time).

I'm taking the MCAT for the 2nd time tomorrow (yikes!!). Have felt like I'm going to puke pretty much for the past 2 days. (The MCAT is a great dieting tool, btw ;-))

Blackfire: Where do you live? I'm in Park Slope, live on 7th avenue.

We should rally after the MCAT and keep eachother's spirits up.

Good luck to all!!

BH

What are all your stats guys? research, volunteer, ec's, etc? thanks! 😀

Keep up the spirits. Being the only one in the family makes for a great motivational statement and essay. Ive used it. Not having a role model is REAL!!!! Find one if you can. I am new to this game myself, but I would say, go for a masters and get your grades up !!! and then at the very least you will have something else to pursue as well...See SUNY Buffalo -its cold but cheap and listed under AAMC

[ Keep ur head up and do ur thang. Interviewed at Upstate and was waitlisted and at NYMC and UCONN. Bronx NY.......

HEY GUYS,
