Hi,

I got a B- in chem 1 - retaking this class would raise my GPA by 6.5 points, in other words, give me almost .1 to my overall GPA (e.g 3.4->3.5)

Should I do it, or is retaking a B- excessive?

Thanks for the insight.

As a brief background I goofed my first 2 years because I wasn't mature/serious etc, ended up with 2.9ish GPA and bad pre-reqs. Got serious junior year, been holding about 3.7 average with upper division courses for an entire year - including A in organic 3, A- and A 2 biochemistry courses.

Based on my upward trend, probably don't NEED to retake - I do plan on retaking 3 Cs in chem2, cell bio, and bio 2, however.

I am in a similar situation. The only C I have is in chem 1. Everything else is A (except Cal 1 which was a B). I am debating if to retake it or not. I am not sure if it would be worth it if I maintain nothing but 4.0's from here on out.

Remind me - are you applying this cycle? If so, it seems like the pharm schools would be looking at your app without the retake anyway. What is your overall science GPA? Also, do you have room in your schedule for the class without bumping or delaying other prereqs? (Assuming that last one's a yes.)

Have you considered perhaps taking a more challenging Bio class & getting an A rather than retaking the B-? From what I've read, nobody's said Biochem didn't help them in pharm school - as long as you're pretty sure you can slam dunk it. Or maybe something like genetics, if it seems more up your alley? Just something to think about.
