Requirements for 0-6 Pharmacy program?

but isn't it worth more in grade values
EX
3.0=B in regular
3.45=B in honors (equivalent to a B+/A- in regular)

They try to make it equal in college but it's all relative... some school's classes are going to be harder just like some teachers are harder. That's why we have AP Exams to figure out whether a class should be counted for college credit.

Yes that's true, but when colleges look at your GPA, they don't weigh it if it's honors and regular classes. I'm pretty sure they just factor in AP classes with .5 extra...sooo all Bs is a 3.0, honors or not in college's view (excluding AP classes).

btw yo
I only have 1 issue with ure schedule, no science APs (make sure u take in senior year)
u have history but that won't really count too much for pharmacy schools

and definitely take Physics in 11th grade, Latin isn't going to help you in pharmacy school 😛

I'll be takin AP Chemistry and MAYBE AP Biology...deciding if i should take AP bio or 3 other honors science classes...biotechnologies...biomedical and something else. Yea I won't start latin...if I don't do the CTC, I'll prob do AP Chem, AP Bio, and AP physics in my senior year. Here's the program I'm lookin at-only for the schools in Chesterfield. Only problem is that it would take up 3 classes, meaning I would have to drop spanish and be left with my 4 main subject courses.

At the top click Courses. It should say Biotechnologies in the bottom left square under Health Sciences & Service. The click above the picture where it says "course description". Sound better than 1 or 2 AP classes?

I just use www.collegeboard.com it's pretty helpful and you get an account automatically when you take the PSAT... not sure about the SAT though...

i dunno about scholarships, but all the 0-6 schools i looked at were insanely expensive. i didn't do the math, but i think i will be cheaper for me to go to 8 years of regular school than 6 years of 0-6.

so hopefully they have scholarships, but i doubt full ride ones. or if so, they must be very hard to get.
USP won't give you more than 9,000 a year which is less than 1/3 of tuition; however, athletes get up to 1/2 tuition scholarships.

Hampton University gives full scholarhsips! and Howard-oh yea! All i gots to do is keep a good GPA and basically ace the SAT. When did you all take your SATs? Around spring time at the end of your junior year?

I've not taken the SAT yet... but colleges down south (which, unfortunately, is where I am) prefer the ACT, so I started that the summer of my sophomore year. If you're a junior and you haven't taken it yet I would ASAP.

lol what's the rush? you don't apply until the beginning of your senior year, right? Why not wait a little while into your junior year to take it?

My junior year's just finishing... I must have misunderstood you... heh. But I started taking it at the end of my Sophomore year. I want to give myself at least 2 good chances to nail it though.

Only if you send it to them... and in normal cases they don't care anyway. For instance if you have a 30 after taking it 3 times and someone else has a 27 and has taken it once, they'll most likely choose you over the 27 (assuming you have the same GPA, ECs, ect).

Some colleges are a little more picky about it... like if you're applying for an Ivy League and you have a 35 after taking it five times and someone else has a 35 after taking it once they'll pick the other person...

I think this is right... someone correct me if it's not.

Thanx. Now I just gots one more q. (for now).

What book should I use to prepare for the SAT? I doubt I'll get the official college board book because they say it doesn't give you the answers.

I'm thinking about getting:

1)11 Practice Tests for the SAT and PSAT, 2009 Edition
2)Barron's SAT 2400: Aiming for the Perfect Score (Paperback)
3)Cracking the SAT, 2009 Edition
4)Kaplan SAT Advanced: Intensive Prep for Top Students
5)Gruber's Complete SAT Guide 2009 (Gruber's Complete SAT Guide -12th Edition)
6)The Official SAT Study Guide (maybe)
Anything you use to prep for it?
#s 1-6 in order of which you would likely get?

The blue book does give the answers and is the best as it uses actual SAT questions and is given in the same format so you can time yourself. Running out of time to finish is not uncommon and will potentially cause you to give up points. Barnes & Noble sells a few companion books that are good for tips/shortcuts (I'd check them out in the store before buying, maybe not worth it to you). There might also be a SAT class near you, if you prefer reviewing in a group, and some are pretty cheap (under $100).

i was acually wondering if its ok not to enter any science APs, but still take APs in general

Will 0+6 programs still accept this?

They accept anyone well qualified-science APs or not. I just research schools and see that a strong background in science really helps boost your transcript and whatnot. At leat that's what I think.

Since many of the pharmacy schools will not accept, or recommend you use, AP sciences for credit, it doesn't really matter. Taking extra science such as physics or a&p does. Taking honors sections, if available, is helpful.

But would a low AP score hurt my chances even if they didn't accept it?

For example, if I got a 1 on a AP test, would that look bad?

Well don't send it to the college then

Does anyone know if u don't do well freshmen year (3.0, 2.75), but do amazing sophomore year(3.75), will it affect my chances on getting into the 0+6 program?

Well first of all, thank you for the response, and second I think they say colleges like to see improvement so at least you got better from freshman year to sophomore year. I thought they look at your cumulative GPA anyways? I also thought that if I didn't send my AP scores to the colleges that I'm applying to, that would imply that I didn't take the test, which would probably look as bad as getting a one right?

O yea. From my original post I have an updated 10th grade GPA. 1st semester-3.5 and 2nd semester-not done yet but 3.7 halfway through

I would stack up on the science and maths and not worry about English and humanities as much. You need to build a solid ground in chemistry!!, math, and bio & i would take a year of physics.

I'm currently a junior in HS and am going for pharmacy like my other 2 sisters. I have done tons of research about what types of curriculum you will have to have in the pre requisties (1st 2 years).

I would build a solid foundation in science and math and not worry about English and the humanitaries as much. You want to have experience with Chem..I would take Honors and AP. Math, Physics, and Bio are important too.

I'm currently a junior and am going to be going for pharmacy like my other two sisters. I have done alot of research on what high school courses you should take. Chem is the top of the list haha

O yea I'll be sure to do chemistry and math n science courses. I plan on graduating with 5 math courses (algebra 1&2, geometry, trig, AP calculus AB) and 6 science courses (Earth science, biology, chemistry, AP Biology, AP chemistry, physics) completed. Main thing is trying to get my English skills up so I can do well on all 3 parts of the SAT.😴

I would recommend adding AP English to your list. The thing that will help you with your prereq's is being able to offload some of the gen ed requirements from your schedule.

Lol that's too much reading and writing from what I hear. I'd rather take English 11 Honors and get a B+ than AP English and get a low C. It's a minimum 2 yrs in undergrad anyways, and english is one of those prerequisite classes, so it wouldn't make me or break me would it?

You could take AP English as a senior, you have to take 4 years of English anyway, right? With a 4/5 you should then be exempt from one or both freshman english classes in college. This could be a real benefit as you wouldn't be doing all that reading and writing papers when you're trying to ace your pre-req's!

The seven PharmD programs that my D was accepted to this year were far more excited about her extra anatomy & physio, AP English, and college Econ and Government classes than any AP sciences she took. She's also taking another gen ed class online this summer (history or psych) before she goes off the college which her pre-pharm advisor was happy to hear that as well.

Thanx. I'll try to get in with a teacher recommendation.

Hey man nice to see your still at it. I had a change of heart. I'm not going to purdue or USP or albany. I'm going to michigan. It was U-Mich or Wisconsin.

In the end Michigan was rank top 5 as the best pharmacy program. Purdue/Wisconsin was @ 9. Albany/USP we're below the top 20 it's pretty sad.

USCF # 1 follow by UNC-Chapel (I'm on the waitlist)

Some schools don't have a pre-pharmacy (program) michigan doesn't but it still is a 6 yr program. The 1st two year you just need to complete 73 credit. Then you can apply directly to the 4 Year PH.D

University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Wolverine MofO!

But do the rankings matter, seeing as they all give the same value degree?

Anyways...as of about 2 days ago, I've had a change of heart too. No more pharmacy! Dentistry is where I'd be of more use. And it's in the health field where I can still help people and live a nice life.😎

Anyways...as of about 2 days ago, I've had a change of heart too. No more pharmacy! The D.M.D.-I think that's the dentist's degree-is where the money is ($500 a day doesn't sound bad to me!). And it's in the health field where I can still help people and live a nice life.😎

Experience matter most then follow by ranking. It's hard to turn down a application from a University then to a state school. Unless if the state school student has some major experience.

Yes, what college you go to DOES make a difference.

^^ Sry I meant DDS-I looked it up^^

So, hypothetically speaking, you're saying that a Walgreens in Georgia would choose a Massachusetts College of Pharmacy graduate over a Pacific University graduate? Both are good colleges that offer the same degree, both degrees are 6-8 years to obtain, graduates have the same rank and 0 years experince.😎

Probably.
So how's the SATs studying going so far?

Ha I can't believe you pulled this thread back up.
It's going alright, but I'm stuck at average scores right now. I have until next march or so to study, but this summer I've been using The Official SAT Study Guide 2nd edition, The Princeton Review Cracking the SAT 2010 Edition, and Gruber's SAT 2400. You think these are good?

I just saw my old post...updated that old thing

My name is Abraham and I am a junior in a private, Jewish high school in L.A. I am very interested in the programs, diversity, and beautiful campus that 0-6 pharmacy programs has to offer I am so INTERESTED IN PHARMACY!. I am a 1st generation American/ Persian, so my English is not that great but I am getting better quite rapidly. But, I have recently been stressing over the fact of applying to these programs or not (For Fall of 2013). The reason for that is because my high school does not emphasize on the strength of their academics and clubs etc. I have been in the highest level classes we can be in since the 10th grade.[Our school actually has the UC school requirements, but we have to go to school during the summer too, if we want to get the a-g courses.] In fact, I am taking calculus right now. But, the problem is that our school does not offer any AP classes. And since we start school at 7:30 AM and end on average at 9:30 PM, 6 days a week (excluding Friday's due to religious observance) it is very hard for me to reach higher levels of secular studies. I am currently self-studying for the AP English Language and psychology exam. And I know I will do well because when I have a goal, I achieve it. But what worries me is: I don't know if I am heading on the right track. We have no school counselor to help for this stuff! Also, my parents are very busy since we have a family of 8, so they do not really have time for this, so I have to take care of myself and my 4 younger siblings. I have also tried to make school clubs/groups; however, my school does not allow it. I even got a petition from many kids in my school that they wanted one of these groups, but no matter how many times i tried my school turned me down. Still, I have gone out of way to help my community and temple (volunteering), fundraising, setting up, tutoring, recycling, etc. Also, I took a practice ACT test and got something like a 28-29, but I am sure I can bump it up to over 30. Also, I forgot to mention I am planning on also self-studying AP Biology, Chemistry, and probably Calculus in my senior year (We are going to end at average 10:15 a night, so it will be pretty hard, but manageable). And if it helps I understand 3 languages, almost 4.

So I was wondering can you please help me.

What can I do to improve my application?
What should I be doing in my summer/ free time etc. (I mean, when I am not in summer school or studying)?
What should I do about the Clubs, and AP's?

Please tell me of anything you think that can help me; I am forever grateful!

Thanks, Abraham.

Just make sure you keep your GPA up your junior year, also make sure you are involved with many clubs and activities.

I have just finished high school. I got accepted to 0-6 year Pharm D program in MPCHS and URI? which school is better? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

URI is not the easiest 0-6 to get into - I believe last years average was 4.1 GPA and a 1330 SAT! Of the east coast schools, I would say that MCPHS is probably the easiest 0-6 to get into (not necessarily the easiest to stay in though!). Also, ACP is now a 2+4 school although they have a conditional guarantee for students who maintain a 3.0 prepharm, interview, and take the PCAT.

My D applied to 8 schools this year, all with 0-6 or conditional guarantees. So far she's been accepted to Butler, MCPHS, USP, and Duquesne. She waitlisted for Wilkes in PA (only 80 spots for prepharm), was not accepted to PharmD at St John's, and is waiting to hear from UB and ACP. Her stats were 4.0, top 10%, 1150/1780 SAT. She had 55 hours of pharmacy shadowing experience.

My advice is to keep your grades high, study and practice for your SAT/ACT (she didn't!), and apply early to the 0-6 programs, particularly those with rolling admissions! Good luck!
Has she not applied to EMSOP, not sure if it is a good school or not but would definetaly like your opinion.
