What are the requirements to get into DO school?
Is there a list or website somewhere where I can find which schools offer DO?
I'm more interested in an osteopathic education than becoming an MD.

I hear that DO is easier to get into, but that's not why I want to do it. What are people's thoughts on this?

You have to sacrifice a live chicken in under 7 seconds. It is easier than allopathic schools but a bit more bloody. Wear shoes you don't like to the interview.

Yeah this is pretty standard. Also remember to sign up for the optional voodoo aptitude section when you register for the MCAT. Otherwise you're SOL.

As far as requirements.... I saw that you got some advice in another thread about med school and the path and they pretty much laid it out. MD or DO it's going to be competitive and you will need to have good grades and a good MCAT. I wouldn't even open the can of worms about whether it's easier to get into DO school or not....doesn't really matter because stats are going up each year and both are competitive. A couple tenths of a point in average GPA or a couple points on MCAT shouldn't really matter right now for you since you aren't to that point yet. Just do your best.

But the general requirements are going to be the same....biology, chemistry, organic, math, social science, etc.... Check with individual schools (MD or DO) because some schools require or "recommend" other courses like biochem or genetics.

the requirements are the same as the MD schools. schools will have specific requirements that vary, which youll get with both MD and DO programs, but the general requiremetns are identical.

I'm pretty sure Slim's being sarcastic. It's evident from the OP's questions that he/she hasn't done any research on DO schools. A simple google of "DO" or "osteopathic schools" brings up aacom as the first hit. Simple information that can be readily found.

Well I'm also ridiculously good looking. I actually think that is what eventually got me those acceptances.

You never know. It's very possible there is healing power in sarcasm. My grandma is a highly sarcastic person and she has survived cancer three times. 👍

Glad to know maturity level = difficulty of application process. I just think its as simple as this: ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. That is usually how it works in the real world. Oh and have you met our friend the "search" function? Please don't equate humor with maturity, just attempt to find one and hold on to it for dear life.

why do you keep saying it's easy to get into a DO school? If you're an MD reject, thats okay. Just admit it. You've shown no interest or any understand of DO schools or osteopathic medicine. Would it have been all that hard to google "DO schools" or "osteopathic medicine"? That would have taken you to AACOM.org. Now you bring up the I wanna be a DO because I want to treat the person in a holistic manner and not just the disease blah blah blah. So what differentiates a DO from an MD? Please expand on the "holistic" approach because that is not the answer.

Excellent, difficult question. However I would have to go with Yoda. My reasoning:

1) I think I remember Yoda cracking is own neck before an epic light saber battle in one fo the recent Star Wars movies.
2) Yoda can move things with his mind, is all philisophical and stuff
3) Yoda is one bad mofo, not to be messed with
4) Merchandising!!!...oh wait, that was Yogurt

Seriously??? Have you been to the Pre-Allo thread??? If so, you would certainly find that the maturity level there is so much lower than here. So, in your calculation, would that mean that MD is easier? People here are generally much nicer, but when we get questions such as yours that have been asked a million times, you aren't necessarilly going to get the best answer. You should consider yourself lucky for not getting flamed, and for getting several good answers.

if you've been on the thread for a long time you have to realize that you will eventually start seeing the same questions over and over again. most people come to this site for the same reason, b/c they have questions about the medical process that they dont have answers to (thats why I came)....no matter how stupid we think they are b/c weve heard them 30000 times.

so, if i see a question that i've answered/heard a millino times, i either respond with the same response i did previously, or ignore the thread!

As stated before, you could have figured all this out with a ten second google search. Also, as someone already said, obviously it really depends on the individual applicant. Everyone has a very unique application, and some people who have lower stats make up for it with amazing work experiences etc. So, just reemphasizing that the people who attend osteopathic schools are in no way less competitive than the allopathic applicant pool. In fact, many of the DO students I've met have been far more impressionable than the MD students.

that seems strange. i thought secondaries were sent out primarily based on whether or not you met requirements for GPA and MCAT and other things like that......is that not true?? i mean what do the schools have to judge whether or not you are worthy of a secondary? just your personal statement and then whatever you fill out on ACOMAS...right? ive even heard that at some schools it is automatic if you meet their requirements....and with the stats you mentioned i highly doubt you were under any minimum correct.

if you dont mind, what schools didn't send you a secondary? did they give you a reason?

I didn't get anything from PCOM. Some people have told me that PCOM is really overwhelmed with applicants and sometimes take really long to get back to you, so that could be the reason.

a) stop going into threads that you know will likely have the same questions youve seen 200 times.

b) take a break from SDN so that when you come back, you havent seen any questions in a while, so everything seems new!

Actually, I would bet that every question has been asked and answered in some form or the other over the years of SDN. Having been here two years I haven't seen anything different. Your key is to come on for a month and then take two months off. Otherwise you go insane. The only reason I commented on this thread was that I picked up a cockiness from the OP which I hate more than anything else. I believe they proved that with the rest of their comments on this thread as well.
