Due to not having access to a scanner I took a photo of one of 4 LORs with an iPhone and uploaded it to ERAS in September. It is perfectly readable, but it looks skewed and not perfectly in focus in some places and dim. There is no concern about readability or photoshop forgery - it is much harder to forge/modify a 3D camera-taken image (due to visible folds and skewed fonts) than a 2D scan, but I'm concerned the program would think I am sloppy. Otherwise it's a very strong LOR of a PD who wanted to recruit me to his program.

Is it possible to rescan and upload this LOR to the same ERAS slot and have it visible immediately? It was already downloaded by all programs.

I would recommend calling the ECFMG who is your designated Dean's office and takes care of your LOR uploading and transmission to ERAS.

Reading more, I figure I can't make it seamless for a PD and delete the low quality image. They will see two copies of a LOR and will read both of them trying to figure out what's changed. I guess I better leave it as is.

I wouldn't worry about it at this point, unless they message you stating that they can't read the letter.
