In the case that you get an interview at your "safety school," and it requires flying, hotel rooms, missing class, etc. How appropriate is it to call the school asking if you can put the interview on hold? I already have my interview confirmed and its in 3 weeks but I don't want to make the trip until after December 1st if I find out I didn't get into schools nearby. Is it worth taking the chance? I know schools only open up a few days at a time for scheduling, so does anyone know how to go about this?

I don't know that that is a good idea, because the school may be able to see through why you are delaying the interview and give it to some one else. This is just speculation-if you think you have a high chance of a nearby school, then its all up to you.

ye tough call be careful on this one.

My advice:
Go to the interview. I don't see how it's a "safety school" anymore if you reschedule to a late date. If money is an issue, then still go. Reapplying costs more. If you happen to get into an in-state school, the amount you save for attending one would be more than enough to cover for the money "wasted." If time is wasted, reapplying takes up more time. Missing class will be tough, but don't let it be the reason for you not to go.

If you like to gamble, then reschedule.

Grats with the interview invites.

Side rant: Ahhhh, interviews are nice to have, aren't they? I want one.

That's what I thought when I first applied. Then you start getting some, and start getting greedy. I check my e-mail and stress out now more than I did before I heard back. It's definitely not it's all cracked up to be.

its tough man. i hope u get in

Hehe, the whole process is stressful. Even after getting accepted, graduating, working.
It's nice to know that you're on to the next step though. 😛
Grats on your invites!

My (bad?) advice: Wait until it gets closer and then call and re-schedule or cancel. This is the perfect place for the well concocted lie. "Death in the family" or "Sister having a baby".

Most schools probably wouldn't mind giving you a later interview.
