I am a third year american medical student at a Canadian medical school (so I would be in the first round of the match when applying for residency). I got a 253 on my USMLE and have received merit based academic scholarships for my performance in the first two years. My school does not participate in the AOA.

I also have completed one research project in a non-RadOnc/Cancer related field for which I won best paper at a national conference and am expecting a publication to be coming out of it shortly.

I am presently looking to do a Rad Onc research project, but was hoping to set it up in the states as I want to do my residency down there. Has anyone heard about such a project being set up from another country like this? If I did Rad Onc research at my home school in Canada with an unknown researcher, would that help my application at all?

Any advice would be appreciated and thanks a lot!

you could arrange an official away rotation at a US top 10 radonc program. often you can choose between "clinical radiation oncology" vs " radiation oncology research" courses.
