So, I've read in the college information book that Touro-CA has some kind of relationship with UCSF and maybe Berkeley, and that students may have opportunities to do research there while at Touro. Anyone out there have experience with this? If so, is it something students can realistically take advantage of? I'd also be interested in hearing from any students at other DO schools that take advantage of opportunities in biomedical or clinical research at nearby institutions. Thanks!

Realistically during the school year you'll probably spend your time at one of the Touro labs. They have a few with some interesting research. Doing research at UCSF labs is fairly easy as long as it is unpaid, but during the school year that would mean either driving down there (45 mins) or taking the ferry (1 hour). Your best bet will probably be the summer.

The only thing I could see researching at Touro NorCal is how to dig your way out of the mountain after the next earthquake hits. The hotel they have you stay at can also be a health hazard; ask the front desk why they had to repaint a lot of one part of the building when you're up there. Smoke damage from SEVERAL fires! Probably also some great pathology to study the effects of asbestos on medical professionals in training.

That's all I've got. 😆

Ha, so true. One of my classmates did research on PCB soil contamination on the campus from when the island was a Navy shipbuilding facility. OP, I did summer research at UCSF, feel free to PM me.
