Did any of you present any research this year (or will you)?

I just thought I'd share a couple photos from my poster presentation, Dosimetry Profiles of Activities of Daily Living at this year's Research Day: Bridging Research and Practice at Idaho State University.

I presented a poster on my research at my university's 4th annual Undergraduate Research Symposium. My poster and coming thesis is titled: "Conversational Repetition and Aphasia: A Case Study." I began my project junior year when I was still concentrating in speech-language pathology although I am still very interested in the topic just not enough to stick with speech-language pathology as a career.

Ashley, your poster looks good! 🙂

Eastr90, that's interesting!!! I used to work with young adults with aphasia at St. Jude's and it was such a powerful experience.

I wish the best for the both of you!

Interesting! I think cross-disciplinary research is really cool, and it's a great way to help build bridges between professionals in audiology and speech pathology. Way to go! 🙂

Poster looks great rEliseMe 🙂. I'd love to read your paper sometime! Is this something you are interested in pursuing at Iowa or if I remember correctly it was something else?..I just can't remember lol.

I think interdisciplinary research is fascinating. If I wasn't so dead set on doing pediatric aural habilitation research (using auditory training to improve speech perception in hearing impaired children)...I totally would've done some sort of research examining the role of speech perception in those that have aphasia AND hearing loss (age is a correlating factor)...and how to improve it. Has anyone ever thought about that? Or something similar? That right there would tie audiology, linguistics and speech-language pathology research!

Thanks, Spring! 🙂 If you send me your email address, I'll pass along a copy of the poster so you can read it. I'd rather not send the whole paper because I'm hoping to publish it somewhere. This specific topic isn't something I'm necessarily planning on continuing at Iowa, but I do know that I want to continue researching throughout my education... I don't really believe that research has to pertain to a life-long question. I plan to pursue any burning question my brain has. I do think that there are opportunities for outreach and hearing conservation education in this research, and it would be a great experience to try to flesh that out. 🙂

Your topic sure sounds like a great interdisciplinary study. You should consider working with a translational research team! That way, you could focus on your area of expertise but also gain the knowledge from the other two disciplines and make some professional connections along the way. The research day at ISU was all about that kind of thing, so naturally I'm apt to encourage it. 😛

I think if we can incorporate more interdisciplinary emphasis on audiology-based research, it will create more exposure to the field. Also, I'm PMing you my email. When your paper is published, let me know because I would love to read it 🙂.
