First time post, sorry if I rant a bit I'm crazy nervous about this whole thing. So because my school is insane about having our AMCAS in ASAP I rushed a little and submitted 6/15. I'm really happy with my MD/PHD and personal, but the Research essay may not be great, I'm not sure. I tried to write it conversational, giving a brief summary of my research and tried not to bog it down with too much "science-y" writing. Anyone think this will pay off? Or should I totally overhaul it for secondaries? If anyone would like to read it that has done this already that would be awesome, its already submitted and everything, this is more for my own peace of mind and again, editing if I get to re-do this type of question on secondaries. These forums are great thanks alot in advance....

lol if you've already submitted it, i don't think you should ask for any more opinions. it could bring you peace of mind or just the opposite. the secondary essay questions will be different anyway. i doubt you will wonder whether to copy and paste your amcas (because if you do, the school usually takes it as a lack of interest in them).

Don't worry about it now, since you already submitted. You will have an opportunity or MANY opportunities on secondaries to write a modified or even completely new research essay. Each school has different requirements. There's no point crying over spilled milk.

What about for those schools that explicitly say it is OK if you copy and paste from AMCAS? Is it still advisable to significantly overhaul an essay for those secondaries, or can we take them at their word?

Well then the good news for you is that most schools ask you the same questions. You can definitely copy and paste from one secondary onto another (just be very careful to remove any reference to a different school). I even managed to recycle the "Why this school" essay for schools with similar teaching methods, resources and/or locations. So it won't be too many new essays.
