One area of concern for me is that I do not have any lab research experience, in applying for MOT programs. I was a religious studies major at UCSB (which is the top school for that), and I did an inordinate amount of research in eastern languages (Sanskrit and Chinese) and religions. Are programs only asking about quantitative lab experience, or would an extensive senior thesis count towards research experience?

I'm curious about this, too. Does anyone know how important research experience is in applications for MOT as opposed to MSOT or OTD? And like the original poster said, what do they qualify as research?

I don't recall seeing any 'research requirements' for any of the MSOT programs I looked at. This must be more OTD-specific, as currently many of the OTD programs are only open to current OTR/Ls, though this seems to be changing, the way PT has gone to DPT as the "entry" point degree. I have a BFA and an MA so while I've done document-based research, I've never done any lab research (beyond basic lab time in A&P and Physics), and I still got into a program. I know that OTCAS system has a section for research or publication experience, but for MSOT programs, I don't know that it's a deal-breaker not to have those.
