i did two summers of research and loved both experiences. i've since decided that i'm not a "research person" but i don't for a second regret my time spent in those labs. i think research is exciting bc it's cutting edge science...
through my research, i've found amazing mentors... people in the field (MDs, PhDs, MD/PhDs) who have supported and encouraged me to no end. it's great to form bonds with these people.
in terms of helping humanity... i like to think my research has at least in some small contributed to the growing vat of scientific knowledge, no matter how imperceptible.
