I've worked on a project (retro chart review) for the past 6-7 months and will be submitting to a journal very soon. How do you log "clinical research" as a research experience when it was done in my spare time (and at home, since I had access to hospital records on my own computer)? It's definitely not something like physically going to a lab for 2-3 days per week, etc.

Just make a best faith estimate about the time you've spent working on the project and be sure your Contact, who will verify your timeframe of involvement is in agreement.

I'm not sure what the AMCAS application is like, but from what I know, I know basic science research titles are somewhere along the lines of "undergraduate research assistant" etc, but not sure what the "position" per se is, for my situation?

You don't need an "official" title to name your Research space. You can instead pick one that best describes what you did, like Research Assistant, Affiliate, Aide, Associate, or Medical Records Data Extractor, Chart Reviewer, or whatever you (and maybe the PI) think most appropriate.
