Hi,
I am applying this summer to medical school. I have been involved in research here and there in different degrees, but haven't been involved with one lab for years like many people. Can someone who really knows please let me know if they think that all of this added up together seems like fairly good research experience? All of this experience comes from my undergraduate experience.
Research from undegraduate courses- Performed a Communications experiment and wrote a group paper for an Honors section of a Communications class, performed a Psychological experiment and wrote a group paper for a Psychology Research Methods Class, am currently in a Clinical Psychology lab class in which I will design my own experiment and write up an individual paper
Research for Social Anxiety in Decision-Making Experiment- helped with data entry, ran assessments (computer and questionnaire based, set participants up to machine to read their skin conductance, heart rate, etc.) for 1.5 months
At paid employment at the School of Nursing where I worked for 3 years, I would sometimes help the Research sector by looking up articles, preparing research materials, and data entry.
I currently have the title of "Lab Assistant I" in a Psychology professor's lab. However, at this point I mostly help her organize teaching materials that she now gathers from previous research that she has done. I help organize references for articles she is submitting or chapters she is writing for books. She has done a lot of important work and research of her own, and has published many papers. I have gotten a chance to learn about the research that she has done, examine some of her data, and become familiar with the measures of a questionnaire that she invented. But I do not actually run experiments for her.
I feel that I've learned a lot of different things about research in unique ways from these experiences, but I'm not sure how it will look to adcoms since it's not the typical "I worked in this lab studying this specific question for three years" kind of work.
Any input would be much appreciated- Thank you!!!!
