Hi, I'm fairly new to this site, and at the moment, I don't really have time to search threads to see if there's an answer to my question, so I'm just going to ask it. Sorry if you feel I've wasted your time.
I'm applying to both MD and DO programs for fall 2006 because I'm not sure which I want to do, but I have a strong background in engineering at the undergraduate level. Ultimately, the end-career goal of my clinical practice (when I'm in my late 40s or so) is to do biomedical research (I really want to work with improving MRIs and/or EKGs, from both a medical and engineering perspective). Will doing either really have an impact on the research I can do in the future, i.e. will I have the same research opportunities at universities if I get a DO degree instead of an MD?
For those about to say it, yes, I know I should probably be doing an MD/Ph.D, and while I probably have the MCAT score for it, I certainly don't have the grades. I may wind up getting the Ph.D. in biomedical or electrical engineering somewhere down the road, though.
Any responses would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
