Hello,

I am wondering how many shadowing hours should one have to be a competitive DPM candidate? I'm also wondering if podiatry schools place emphasis on research experiences done in undergrad or post grad? Thank you.

I applied with about ~50 hours of shadowing experience, but I've been going ever since. Learning more and more each day.

As for research, it's always a plus. Looks great on any application.

I think Pedum has the right idea. I am doing the same. Even though I have been accepted I still enjoy shadowing.

I would still recommend calling the schools and asking them this question. There may be schools who will want you to do a little more shadowing and or research before applying.

I'm also accepted. I just enjoy the experience. 👍

for those of you who had research experience, under what category in the aacpmas application did you put it under? As of right now the categories are Podiatric experience, health care experience, work experience, Extracurricular experience, and "other relevant information".

I did more of a laboratory internship and it was really not medical/health care based (it was more ecology related). And if i put it under "other relevant information," the category is only comprised of a textbox for writing about the experience....what do you guys think i should categorize it as?

"Other relevant information" would be the spot. In the text box write about your experience and the hours you spent.

yeah i figured this would be the most appropriate place! everyone else agree? thanks for the advice!!

I put it under work experience because I was being paid for working in the lab. It would be a better place if you have no work experience

well if it was completly voluntary (non-paid) like mine, i'm guessing it should still go into the "other information" section. But for you it makes sense to put it in the work category
