I am an MS-III on the fence between uro and PRS. I wont be able to do a PRS elective until early in my fourth yr so I prob wont be clear on which I want to do until that time. Would I be at a sig disadvantage if all my research is urology? Obviously If i go to PRS i will pick up a project early in my fourth year but know its unlikely anything big would come of it before the match.
Otherwise my application should be solid

You can read past posts on the zillions of WAMC threads about PRS. Highlights include:
1. PRS match is a crapshoot
2. Good board scores are necessary in most cases, but not sufficient, to match
3. Research is good, but plastics research is better
4. LOR's from VIP's in plastics are probably more important than any other aspect of an application
5. Away rotations are necessary for most successful applicants
6. Again, integrated plastics match is a total crapshoot

I never considered uro. The only things I seriously considered were ortho (briefly) and peds surgery (after GS) before settling on plastics. I might have done rads if I hadn't fallen asleep immediately upon entering the reading room during my rotation as a student.
