Based on your post, it sounds like tech is your top priority right now. If you need an internship in order to improve your chances of getting a tech job after graduation, I say go that route. You can always come back to medicine, if you choose to. You probably want to also get some clinical exposure (ideally, something that gives you contact with patients--not just lab experience) at some point to help you decide if medicine is really for you.

I would say go with the tech job. Especially if you're on the fence about your career path. Research publication still isn't guaranteed even if the lab has a good record, and you'll get a chance to explore your interests while putting yourself in a position to get a job (especially since you said it's tough to land)

If I could go back, I would've explored my interests in programming at a start up (and this is with me publishing research during my year off, I would have traded the experience)

Tech job. Better to follow your interests now and not regret it. Spend a few yrs doing that and if it's not for you - then medicine will still be there
