hello everyone. i'm thinking about doing research this summer and beyond but i have no research experience whatsoever. i'm hoping a professor would be willing to take me in and teach me and let me work on a few projects of my own. i'm hoping to do clinical research rather than research in the basic sciences. is anyone here doing research and if so, how tough is it while going to school and also how hard is it when you're first starting out? thanks!

I asked my genetic's teacher if I could participate in some research. He kinda blew me off because I was a pre-pharmacy major. He told me he "Didnt want to watse time on those students who just want research under their belt"

But he had me all wrong, Im more interested in analyzing genetic diseases than to just undergo the career for pharmacy. Some PhD professors are just shallow. 😡

i am currently working on two papers with one professor. so far it has been all fun. you dont really have to study that much, if you inderstand the subject (hypotheses) and exprimental design. right now i am doing literature reviews in order to write an introduction- its going to be about HPG axis and IDU with HIV, on another paper we are doing a cross sectional study on HPA axis and meth users, i spent a lot of time looking up meth clinics and trying to find meth addicts! so it gets very interesting... if we get NIH funding i will have to interview the meth addicts 😱 😀

so its not hard and can be very captivating- especially if you get your name on the paper. I'm doing it now in summer but during school i heard it just gets time consuming- a lot of busy work
