Research Year after 3rd Year?

Does anyone have any experience with doing research after completing 3yr of medical school? Do most people take a research year at the beginning or end of MS3.

Anecdote here but another student I'm doing research with just finished her 3rd year and is doing an MPH/research year right now

Is this person applying to a Competitive specialty?

I did mine after MS2... typically people take them after MS3 though

Oh most people take them after they've completed M3 yr. Have most people completed Step 2 CS and CK before the start the research year?

At my program yes, i feel like most all take CK before the research year but i think CS varies. Most of the people I knew took CS before their gap year. I personally took CS and CK before MS3 ended.
