What is the best course of action in getting involved in a research project. I have never done clinical research before. 1. I want the experience 2. I want the competitive edge.

Thanks for any thoughts on this matter.

Ask the residents and/or attending physicians you work with if they are currently or will be doing any research projects. You can always start your own and find a faculty mentor but without ever doing any research this would be more difficult as you will need quite a bit of assistance. It would be best, for your first project, for you to be with a group that knows what is to be done and they can just give you assignments to follow through with. This way your name gets on the paper but your responsibility is less than heading up a project practically on your own.
