How important is an audition?

How much research do to recommend to match OB/GYN with average numbers otherwise?

I ironically am involved in research that geared more towards mens health but have projects lined up women’s health related topics next. Might this give an impression of less interest than other applicants? Is this important?

Auditions are risky. Screw up one time in the month and you can tank your chances.

If your home program is weak and your application is weak, then go for it.

If you have a good application, there may not be much benefit unless you are targeting one specific program.

OBGYN residencies don't really care about research. It won't cover any glaring deficiencies in an application. If you have some, it may garner some comment from an interviewer but typically not that much.

Just have a good reason why some of your research is geared toward men's health. You've already done the research so not much else to do.
