hi there,

Does anyone know how one does reserch work and get to take it to the level of publishing ?

The reason being, there are quite a lot of research opportunities available, however, most of them turn out to be clinical trials involving pharmaceutical companies.

research is easy. find a mentor who is currently actively pursuing research (in a laboratory), and join in. try to get your own project going. put in lots of hours, get some data, and write it up.

Doc 05, do you think you could ellaborate what you mentined a bit further.

It appears to me as if you are saying, get someone who is likely to publish something and then with their permission write a proposal and get something new altogether 😕

The main puzzle is finding who is running 'pulishable' reserche projects going under their roof.

this depends where you are. are you a med student? resident?

first decide what area you are interested in. find out which PI's are actively doing research. a good resource is the dept. office/secretaries. find out who publishes a lot.

check out

type in the PI's name, and see how often/where they publish. those who publish a lot tend to do so consistently.

then, set up a meeting and talk with the PI. Find out about what's going on in the lab, and what you might be able to work on. If you have a strong background, you may be able to start your own project. If you write up and get your own grant, you will definitely be able to work on your own stuff.

Ok, I will start from the pub med site and see if anything is going to work out.

I will be starting my residency in 2004 July hopefully, and until then like to spend 1-2 days/ week doing some good research, not necessorily for $ if it happens to be that way.

Well, I hope I will find the right one in my are of interest which is Endocrine/ Metabolism/ Obesity. Where am I- in the middle of NY City.
