The admin at my school is telling me that I don't need my ERAS done till Aug. and that I could add LOR's to my file up to Feb. but I want to turn everything on the first day that I can.

Q: What's the earliest date that I can turn in my ERAS?
Q: What's the latest date I should have all my LOR's in?
Q: I was hoping to get LOR's from ER rotations that I will do in Nov and Dec but by that time will those LOR's be too late?
Q: Do residency programs only begin to evaluate apps after they've received the dean's letter in Nov?

Any info/advice would be appreciated.

You can start asking for LORs now, but it will be easier to actually have the LORs turned in once your school says it's okay. When ERAS starts up, your school will give you these cover sheets for your LORs (or you can print them out of ERAS). These need to be given to your letter writer so they can send them in with the actual letter. So, make your contacts now, encourage them to WRITE the letter if they want, but you'll probably need them to send it in during early fall.

ERAS opens sometime in September. You want to get it in early, yes, but you don't have to worry about hours/days. As long as your not a month behind everyone else, you'll be ok. I got several interview invites in October (Dean's Letter in Nov) so not everyone waits, but be aware that some programs classically do not offer interviews until the dean's letter. Most applicants get a bunch of invites, then a dry spell, then another bunch after the Dean's comes out.

If you're raring to go, you can work on your personal statement now, start researching schools by FREIDA and saem.org, or go suit/clothes shopping. Talking to mentors/advisors is another must. It's going to be hard to pick 20-30 programs out of 100+.

Also, you would want to BEGIN to start deciding where you want to apply... but that isn't completely necessary until you fill out ERAS... so I would DEFINATELY have already set up your rotations at any EM residencies, and begin to look for what you want in a residency... midwest, east coast, community, university, urban, etc...

Getting LORs now is key. You can submit your ERAS ASAP even with 1 or 2 LORs... you don't need all 4 to be scanned in... so make sure you have a couple rarin' to go.
