I'm a rising 4th year U.S. medical student interested in ophthalmology. I know it is a competitive field to get into but I've also heard that it is not as hard recently due to lower reimbursements leading to lower applications.

My preclinical grades were excellent-almost all A's and I got >240 on step 1. My 3rd year grades have been ok, I got one c, one b, and two A's so far. Is it possible for me to land an ophthalmology position? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You should be fine as long as:

1) you do well in your ophthalmology rotations.

and

2) you get outstanding LORs from ophthalmolgy attendings.
