So, I'm off-cycle and just graduated. I start residency in July. When do I apply for deferment? Do I send in a form with the 'how do you wish to pay?' letter that direct loans sends you?

If you have consolidated or GradPlus loans - you should consider applying for deferment right away, being that these loans will enter immediate repayment. If you don't - then you have a 6 month grace period on your Stafford loans and nothing will be due until that expires.

Hope that helps!
