I'm a first year DO student currently attending school in the midwest and I really want to do my residency in Seattle. I was wondering if there are anybody who graduated from DO school currently doing their residency there. I understand it's pretty competitive to get a spot on the west coast, I just want to know if it's possible for DO students? If so, what kind of GPA, Boards scores should I aim for?
thanks for your input!🙂

I have a buddy doing Gas at the University of Washington. He graduated from KCOM last year. I'm not going to give you any more information than that, but I bet if you went to a particular website you could find him and his e-mail address. I also have a buddy doing Radiology at Madigan, but he's military so that might not be applicable to you. He also graduated from KCOM, incidentally.

I know that both of these guys were great students with great board scores. The guy doing Gas went out to UW and did elective rotations his fourth year. That always helps as long as you're a standout student (especially for DO's).

There's a PGY-3 at Virginia Mason in Seattle doing Gen Surg. He's a KCUMB grad. 😎

thanks for the input!
good to know pappy846! I think I will look him up!🙂

There are plenty of family practice programs about the seattle/tacoma region. More subspecialties are at university of washington of course and that is about it.

Madigan is military only, so yes, you will only get a spot there is you are HPSP.

Now, my understanding if that some AOA programs will be opening up out in Yakima. Yes, far away from Seattle but within the WA border.

I knew about 6 DO's doing Anesthesia at the University of Washington when I worked there a few years ago. I also know that there are many more in other programs throughout the UW hospitals. Virginia mason and Swedish medical centers also have DO grads. Seattle is beautiful, I just got back from there a week ago. I'm hoping that the integrated plastics program will look at me when I apply!

Good luck,
Ryan
