I am a MS4 interested in FM, but only if I can do a fair amount of procedures when I am done with training.

What is the easiest way to find out if a program offers lots of training in procedures, including colonoscopies?

There are a bunch that will cover colonoscopies. As far as those that seem to have the best rep for delivering the most experience with that particular procedure, I would have to say McLeod in Florence, SC and the LSU-Shreveport program. Both those places have guys getting well up over a hundred by the time they complete their three years. Our program here at UT-Knoxville will get you some experience as well, but probably not quite the volume those two places can get you. For me personally, I just am not that sure that 100 colonoscopies is all that superior or going to make you all that much better than the 50 to 75 we can get here at our program. You are doing the right thing by asking around. Like I said, there are plenty of programs that can give you great experience in this. The biggest thing is going to be picking the geographical location you want to be in and then finding the programs in that area that are offering that procedure. I would also say it is important to figure out which other procedures you want to become proficient at other than colonoscopy. There are some truly great programs out there offering a very diverse procedural training. Everything from OB with c-sections to colonoscopy and EGD's to even major surgery such as appendectomy and cholecystectomy is being offered at the various programs around the country. Pick what you want and find the place that offers that training.

BTW, two more programs that spring to mind that offer great c-scope training are ETSU-Johnson City and JPS in Fort Worth, TX.

You might consider Eau Claire, Augusta, Marquette, Minot, Casper, Cheyenne, Grand Junction.
