I have been searching endlessly for information and have found a lot of it, but unfortunately none of it mentions anything about the US and their medical diplomas. I am currently in the US at Tufts University going for my undergraduate degree in Architecture as Pre-med is not a degree unfortunately. I have every intention to pursue medical school, and intend to do so in the US. I am particularly interested in living in Switzerland someday. I am Albanian but unfortunately we're not in the EU yet, so my chances for admission in european medical schools get cut tremendously hence attending medical school in the US. Anyway, would anyone here know if Switzerland recognizes US medical medical degrees. Also is it possible for a US medical school graduate to be enrolled in a post-grad training program at a university hospital in Switzerland (provided fluency in whichever language is used). I was thinking of Ophthalmology or Anesthesiology but my mind will probably change.

Thanks

Low chance of attending a European med school because you dont have EU citizenship?? That's the 1st I've heard of that. What countries were you looking at that had that rule  , because I've looked into numerous universities in the EU and encountered no such stipulations.

Well, that's true for Switzerland, which is where I wanted to go to medical school. All the Universities list as a requirement the possession of a residence permit (permit C) which can only be obtained after having lived in Switzerland for at least 5 years. The other alternatives are having parents from Switzerland, marriage to a swiss and there are a few other ones I don't recall. I have not lived in Switzerland for 5 years or more, hence I cannot even be considered for admission (My parents are Albanian as am I, and marriage is not in my mind right now). This requirement is only true for medicine as all other faculties don't have such strict admission criteria. The reason behind this according to the University websites (eg Zurich, Bern, etc) is the overwhelming number of Swiss applicants. The rules are a bit different for EU residents due to ERASMUS, so German students for example can be enrolled in a swiss medical program since they have an equal chance to the swiss students. Again, this is only true for Switzerland, but unfortunately I don't have any interest to study elsewhere in Europe.
