This is moreso for faculty/PDs on here...but is there any possibility of a resident going to spend 2-4 weeks at a time helping out in NYC? I hear about all these new beds the government is putting together, as well as the need for medical staff. I'm just now recovering from my own COVID infection and feel like I could be incredibly useful given my likely immunity. Is this a thing that's even worth bringing up to my PD? Would there be a way for me to help out on the front lines?

This is already happening. Nobody will fault u for volunteering.

I'm training at a program out of state. Just wondering if this would be an uncommon ask of a PD. They would obviously have to accommodate my rotations to allow me to be away for a little while.

You should volunteer where you are. Volunteering in NYC is just not a practical idea.

It's admirable for you to volunteer. However, psychiatric patients need your help as well. Don't forget that suicide is it's own pandemic of sorts and with the fear and anxiety we need to be there for our own patients.
