Hey guys,

I separated last summer but still had one year of Navy IRR to do. They told me that I could resign as soon as 2 months before my IRR commitment is up. It's up June 1st - I can resing tomorrow. I've literally spent about 45 minutes on the phone and placed 5 or 6 calls to PERS in the last week and haven't had anybody tell me how this is done.

Advice? I want out. Being put on endless holds and having people answer the phone with lightning fast GoodmorningthisisPERS13I'mR2D2SchmuckatellyhowmayIhelpyou has triggered my anti-Navy PTSD.

I just want out! What do I need to do?

Commit a felony.
Swear your allegience to another nation, or to an extra-national organization opposed to the U.S. government. I think there are a couple in the Middle East or thereabouts.

Aha! On the 4th call to PERS I got the name of a person who could help process said resignation. On the 3rd attempt calling her (after 2 non-returned voice messages), I got ahold of her and she's e-mailing the resignation template to fill out, sign, scan, and e-mail back to her.

So, I guess it was just as easy as every other Navy related task (but we'll see if it really goes that well).

It's basically a letter of resignation to SECNAV.
