Does anyone know if the four years I am in a civilian deferment for residency count towards the 4 years of the reserve I need for my overall obligation?

I other words:

4 years of USN-R (deferment) + 4 years active duty = 8 years???

I don't know for sure, but I would bet huge money that it doesn't count. They always tack it on to the end of your Active Duty time.

I think it does actually. Military internship and residency count towards the 8 year statutory service obligation.

It did not for me. Civilian defered residency does not count for anything other than possibly a better medical education.

Military internship may count, but he did a civilian residency instead.
