Hi everyone! I'll be starting at my first external Prac site soon and wanted to have as many resources as possible. Does anyone know of any good resources pertaining to brief interventions in primary care, hospital settings, and cancer centers? Thanks in advance!!

Yeah anything by Bill Miller will give you a good framework for MI, which is often what people talk about when they say brief interventions. I don't think the principles are always adapted correctly for primary care, but it presents a good opportunity for psychologists.

Christopher Hunter and Margaret Dundon (Syracuse VA?) have a lot of resources within the VA. Might be good to do a lit search with their names.

Also, I found this article to be helpful before starting my IPC rotation on internship: Training psychology interns in primary behavioral healthcare (Dobmeyer et al, 2003).

Here is an organization that disseminations info re: "SBIRT" (screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment). There is a big push for SBIRT in hospitals and primary care, so you might have an interest inlearning about more about this. They also offer free webinars, incl. a free MI webinar next week

You might look up a manual for CBT for insomnia--it's a short, structured treatment for a group of folks you will likely encounter in a primary care setting.

SBIRIT has a huge grant going right now to push for integration into primary care.
The third link from ClinPsychEnthus is an awesome book (I own it) and if you arent already familiar with IPC it gives you a good framework from which to begin.
I got a CBT-I group manual emailed to me last week per my request, and I'd be happy to share it.
For primary care, I'd be more concerned with health behavior change than doing formal CBT-I (e.g. doing parts of CBT-I such as sleep hyiene).
As I've spent a few years in primary care, if anyone needs additional resources, I'm glad to share.
Most importantly, I hope you can win over the docs there-- that's the biggest challenge as BHC's move from co-located to integrated over time.
