Resume?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We don't much care about a CV that might be appropriate for a job. The AMCAS ap and the secondary serve this purpose.
Don't. Just fill out AMCAS. Also don't bring your resume to interviews.

But I always see people asking about getting help with resumes for med school. My school even does a separate session for learning how to format it. Additionally, I can't include all of the things i've done in college in the work/activities, so i would really want them to know the other things I've worked on.

I have never seen an applicant's resume. Only AMCAS.

You SHOULD have a resume (actually, you should have a curriculum vitae) just not one that gets sent to med schools. Sometimes a letter writer will ask you for your resume, or a volunteer opportunity or something. I had to submit a CV to my pre-med committee as part of the application for a committee letter. Maybe that's what your school is referring to.

As for the number of activities, the work/activities section is not meant to be a laundry list of everything you've ever done. Pick the 15 most pertinent things you've done, and combine multiple things into one entry when you can.

I feel like when people say "better your resume for medschool"... that's a generic way of saying "increase your EC's and work experience for your medical school app".

As others have mentioned, the majority of your resume, or at least all the vastly important stuff, will be included in your AMCAS app.

In short, you basically transcribe your CV onto your application. As for your EC concerns. As @Ismet has said, combine when you can. All shadowing can be in one of the 15 slots. Also, all contributions to various student organizations can be in one slot as well.

The trick is to sell yourself, but don't come off as a sharktank pitch, crying to get an investment.
