I'm graduating from pharmacy school next year, and plan on going into retail. The thing is that I don't have any pharmacy experience other than what I've done on my rotations this year. I know there are residency programs that are geared towards community pharmacy, but I really really don't want to do a residency.

Will retail pharmacies hire pharmacists fresh out of school that don't have any actual work experience in a pharmacy (other than experience on rotations anyway)? Will I have a hard time finding a job if I don't go out and look for an intern position right now?

Yes, of course, you'll have no problem finding a job, the retail companies don't care about experience. All they care about is the degree and that you will pass the boards. Just contact your local recruitor from the major chains in your area.

Yes...you can get a job, usually, if you are breathing & pass your licensing examination. However...as on earlier threads..there are areas of saturation - S CA for example.

But...curious...why do you want or have decided to limit your practice exposure? Once you are out of your school setting, it becomes more difficult to obtain experience in many different settings.

A 30-40 year career is a hard thing to decide on when you've allowed yourself no opportunities beyond what was offered in school. It is expected to have many employment "stints" while a student, but frowned upon once you've graduated.

But..your choice.....so, no - you probably won't have much trouble obtaining a job. As for liking that same job in the years ahead - who knows?

That's interesting about pharmacist saturation in S Cal. It's interesting why? Personally, I will never go to Cal coz if you let's say make 100K in there, it is the same as you make 40K or 50K somewhere in midwest. And I know pharmacists in Cal are paid just a little more (~5-10%) then some place else.
