I tried searching for this, but I couldn't find anything..

So I just had an interview with a retail pharmacy chain a few days ago, and I was just curious; do retail pharmacies generally give you a drug test and run a background check immediately after your first interview? And, if they don't give you them immediately, does that pretty much mean you're not going to get the job?

Overall, I think the interview went pretty well, but then it ended on "I should get back to you in a few days."

Thanks

My advice, follow up sooner rather than later. It can go either way, but for entry level positions I think being hired on the spot is more common, that's my experience at least. How often do you get back with people who you say that to?

But back to my main point, just call (or stop in) and ask them how it is coming along. Good Luck!

I think the fact that they offered you a drug test and a background check is a good thing. Why would they invest money in testing if they are not going to hire you? Granted, most of my jobs had me do the tests AFTER I was hired, but if companies were testing every potential applicant, they would go broke.

I meant to say that they did not offer me a drug test/background check when I finished the interview, and I hear these places generally do that when you're hired on the spot after the initial interview goes well.

It basically ended with me asking when they would get back to me, and they said a couple days at the latest. They also made it a point to tell me that they usually prefer licensed pharmacy techs with experience.

I say relax. None of us can tell you the hiring process of the company or specific store in which you interviewed with. They said a few days, so you will have to wait.

Let us know how it goes.👍

Keep in mind that the job market is likely flooded in your area for jobs such as the one you have applied for. Even if they thought you had a positive application, they may have had 200 applicants for that one position and chosen to interview 30. (Based on the recent job postings - albeit in different fields - I have heard about from the hiring managers, I don't think these numbers, although hypothetical, are out of line.) So, it may just be inundation.

I have gotten this line from every job I've ever applied for, even the ones that wanted to hire me on the spot. Including one fast food job, which ended up calling me back same day and wanted me to start Monday from a Friday interview!

Definitely do whatever you can to stand out, in a positive way - send a "thank you" note or fax, stop by in a few days to see how it's going...

Definitely don't sweat it if it takes a while for them to make a decision, if you're still in the running. And don't be intimidated.

Good luck!

Well, thanks everybody for the advice.. I am remaining optimistic, despite how I might have came off in my first post, lulz.

Btw, does anybody know how long these places keep your app on file? I've heard 3 months and then you can apply again, but I thought they normally keep it for six.

@ the BigEvil I was hired at, I was called in by the Pharmacist. I had spoken with her a few months before and asked if she could keep me informed when a position became available. So one day she called and I walked in to the interview and was off to the drug test that same afternoon I believe.

Stay Positive. This was back in 2008. I would suggest that you contact the Pharmacy Managers and get your name in their head. Have them write it down or deliver a formal resume and an index card that they can place in front of their computer monitor just in case.

You may not get the job today, but at least you won't be forgotten. I was lucky because the Pharmacy Manager desperately wanted a male tech because there were normally 100% female except when a floating male pharmacist would work.

Best,

Steven
