Retail pharmacists
Started by mipharmd
If you had a choice would you work the 12/14 hours a day and get 3-4 days off a week, or work half days and work almost everyday... (the schedule comes out to be 6 days one week, 4 days another week)
Those long shifts just wear me out. Maybe it is just the retail environment that sucks the life out of me but I am usually ready to go home after an 8.5 hr shift!
I have a number of nursing friends who do three 12 hour shifts in a row and they seem to be just fine. 12-14hr shifts are not easy but I think the environment you are working in is going to play a big role in how you handle them.
Id rather work the longer days. Its easier to keep going with the momentum of the day to just finish it off rather than have to come back in to work again. I honestly think its better.
I do the 6/4. It blows monkeys.
Blowing monkeys is a bad thing?
I've done both and the 6/4 split that I'm doing now is much worse. I feel like I'm always at work.
Only having to work a few days a week is much better.

less days in hell is always better....
the last 4-6hrs are killer though....but it usually slows down at the end of the day.

I had a pharmacy manager at Walmart who was the only pharmacist. She would work 17 days in a row then get three days off.
this is only a mere reason why I hate Wally World....
I prefer longer days because it allows me to keep track of what is going on and better management. A pharmacist working shorter hours can easily give the other shift "their left behind" work, not have to plan ahead, etc.
Also running errands/shopping is awesome in weekday morning when everybody else is at work. If I need a day off, I just use a vacation date or switch with my partner. Works out great.
