Has anyone else been seeing this over the last 2 years in particular? Independents offering sign on bonuses, WG/CVS/WMT offering 3 or more dollars/hr to techs current wage if they jump companies? My flyover area retail techs get up to 19 dollars after just a few years with a national cert. I remember when I was a technician in 07' it was not like this LOL

What are y'all doing to retain tech staff?

That must be just your region. Of course, all retail has high burn out right. In my region, they pay between 8/hr to 11/hr. The car wash down the street pays more. I have always said that it is easy to find good pharmacist, much harder to find good techs. The problem is in many states there isn't a barrier to entry. CVS can hire anyone off the street and make them a tech.

Even our lead tech, which has worked for the company for 10 years only makes 15 per hour.

Well when retail techs are treated like dog **** by customers and coworkers all day on top of multitasking, and you don’t even pay them well, then obviously they’ll leave for better opportunities.

The economy is doing pretty well now but tech wages aren't keeping up, that's why it is hard to find people.

This is the equivalent of saying "is anybody else noticing that there's a shortage of clobetasol creams for < $10"

There's not a shortage of anything, they're all still out there. They're just not taking what you're offering.

We've had two of our techs for over ten years. Another has worked for the company for almost 20. Another has been there almost two and isn't leaving.

I work for a small chain, but you can really tell a difference. We love coming to work. Meanwhile, the Safeway in town has had a manager and staff RPh position listed as open for over a year now. And the techs are burning out there, too.

Tis the season for some churning & burning. The only reliable/longer life newer technicians are one's currently pursuing higher degrees (Nursing, PA, OT, etc.); unfortunately one will only last for 2-3 years or so at best. Not getting any easier to train new hires either with a constantly changing/updating computer system either & with poor OJT from corporate.

Unfortunately, I have more faith in my automation unit than some of the actual new hire technicians; now if only my Script Pro could sprout wheels & more arms & ring people up @ the register.

I am doing zilch to retain staff because I encourage them to move on to better things. Being a retail tech is a **** job with **** pay. What's left are the older techs who tend to be apathetic and low-energy, and have no motor. They have no better prospects and aren't able to get anything better

Hospital pays techs considerably more than retail ($3 - $5/hr more), we get a lot of applicants from technicians who worked 2 -3 years retail and got certified through retail. So yeah, I can see that it is hard for retail to keep good technicians.
