Retake again?

So I'm retaking a chem class that I didn't do so hot in freshman year (D-) and am retaking it now, however given the fact that I may not be able to pull a straight B, would you advise retaking it again? (Next semester is my last for reference, I am also applying next cycle)

In all, is it worth the retake one last time to get a good grade?

Also, do you have time to retake it? If you get above a C, i dont think its worth retaking. Even with 1 C, it wont be the end of the world if your GPA and DAT are great

I wondered about a situation like this and actually spoke with an ADCON about it. Unfortunately, you shot yourself in the foot by not killing it the second time around. 🙁 Admissions committees understand that crappy grades happen once in a while. However, once you get into a situation where you have to retake a course, they EXPECT you to ACE it. Their reasoning? You have already taken the class once. You have already seen the material and know, generally, what is to be expected.

Your best course of action: contact a couple schools that you are planning on applying to and ask them directly how they view your situation. My opinion: if you get a B- or above, do not retake it. If you get a C+ or below, retake it and do what WHATEVER IT TAKES to get an A!!! Anything less than an A on a third attempt and it will place serious doubt in their heads.....

I failed Orgo I the first time. I withdrew the 2nd time. The third time I got an A. Then I did Gen Chem 2, Orgo 2, Biochem all with A's or A+ and I have an interviews. Don't believe that one course can hold you back.

If you do well then you've matured... I don't really think they look to closely at that. A lot of schools emailed me saying I was missing prereqs. Proves some of them don't look @ coursework

Maybe. I can't speak for the schools so you should call the ones you're interested in. Just think, they're going to see your grades one way or the other. Might as well be when you're calling them to ask while simultaneously showing them your interested and putting YOU on their radar as an application to watch.

I had seriously crappy grades 10+ years ago (some B's, lots of C's, a couple D's) but I'm doing whatever it takes to hold onto my post-bacc 4.0 (or to stay as close as possible to it). If you've "matured" and want to show them that, you seriously need to get mostly A's now. That's what I've been told by admissions counselors AND non-traditional dental students that have taken the leap successfully.
