Retake C- ?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
As far as I know, all prereq classes must be passed with a C or better. I don't think C- is going to cut it :/

Pretty sure you have to have at least a C in any pre-req, and GC is a core pre-req. It is a definite retake for most schools. Def try and shoot for an A this time because some d schools AVERAGE the two grades...GC is all about practice questions and those tricky exceptions! Good luck!

Well I guess I'll be retaking, but this is stupid because a C- is the same grade as a C at a school that doesn't have minus grades (which I am now at). Thanks for the advice though.

I received a D+ and C- in my General Chem classes back in first year, but I received B's in Organic and A's in Biochemistry. Ive graduated already so I'd have to take an online course from another school (theres offerings from Athabasca here in Canada). Do you guys think I'll have to retake those two classes in order to be considered? Or will my higher standing in more advanced Chemistry classes make up for it? If I do well it only raises my GPA about .04 percent since both grades will still be calculated.

For others out there that have a C-, I emaIled admissions for several schools and they said I did not need to retake.

I'm not sure about Canadian schools, but I think most U.S. schools won't accept an online course for the pre-reqs.

Can you specify which schools?

I know some of the ones I'm applying to are going to want me to retake prereqs that I have a C- in.

I just spoke to the admissions offices of NYU, BU, Mercy, and Minnesota. I didn't need to call Case since their requirement is only specific to Organic chemistry and I have other chemistry classes at a higher grade that would count for the other 6 required chem semester hours. I talked to these schools specifically because I am Canadian and these schools seem to be the most Canada friendly judging by the number of Canadians enrolled. Both BU and NYU told me that there is no minimum grade required for prerequisites and Minn and Mercy deemed it acceptable since I achieved a better grade in upper year chemistry classes. The lady at Minn was a bit more hesitant, but since I told her my other upper year chem grades and the fact that I'd be doing a Masters, she seemed satisfied. All in all, not too worried about it as Minn is probably a longshot for me at best anyways. So there you have it, hope this somewhat applies to you guys and helps ease some confusion, best of luck.
